Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art acknowledges it resides on the ancestral territory of the Osage, Kaw, and Otoe-Missouria, among other tribal nations forcibly moved to the region such as the Shawnee, Wyandot, Delaware, Potawatomi, Sac and Fox and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo) nations. On Thursday, Sep. 14, join Julie Blackmon and Kevin Morby at Kemper Museum to celebrate the opening of the exhibition, Julie Blackmon: A Life in Frame.

The exhibition focuses on the last decade of Springfield, MO-based photographer Julie Blackmon's work showing scenes depicting family, community, and landscape to evoke playful and critical examinations of the modern family, feminism, and other social and political issues.

To mark the occasion, Kansas City, MO-based musician Kevin Morby, whose recent studio albums include This is a Photograph (2022) and Sundowner (2020), will join the artist in conversation to discuss the shared themes in their work and the experience of working as an internationally-recognized artist based in the Midwest.

The conversation will be moderated by Jon Hart, 90.9 The Bridge. 

Afterwards, stay for a first look at the exhibition and reception with the artist.
